Iran films see 18% gross increase in fall

Iranian films see 18 percents gross increase at the domestic box office in in fall 2017

Iranian films see an 18-percent gross increase at the domestic box office in fall 2017 year-on-year.

According to a local media report published Thursday, Iranian films screened during fall 2017 grossed well over 382 billion rials, displaying 18% rise compared to the same period last year

The report quoted a research done by a department attached to Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs about the autumn box office for the years 2016 and 2017.

The study also noted that the number of cinema-goers in 2017 saw a 1-percent growth compared to last year's same time span.

Saman Moqaddam’s comedy screened during the study’s select period was one of the most successful films at Iranian box office.

‘Sperm Whale 2’ tells the story of Roya (Mahnaz Afshar), who had dreams of migration to the US, but finally agreed to marry Arjang Senoubar (Reza Attaran) in her homeland.

The comedy saw a huge reception by the public, who related to the film’s nostalgia depicting the past four decades of Iran with references to important social and political developments.

‘Sperm Whale 2’ is a sequel to Moqaddam’s ‘The Whale’, a comedy released in 2015, which became a box office hit.
